I have to say 2017 was a strange year by all accounts. Travel, however, is always a bright spot.. Anticipating and planning for a trip always get me through and the pictures sustain me throughout the year. I am pretty sure no one scrolls through their photos the way I do. I love a colorful photo to remind me of a magical moment! Here are my adventures in 2017 in nutshell.
I kicked off 2017 traveling with my husband to a snowy place. (Crazy for someone who prefers the sun, right?!) However, I have to say everything about the Journey Inn and the surrounding bluffs of the Mississippi were good for my soul. Want to visit Lake Pepin yourself? Learn more about our trip here.
The epic adventure of the year hands down, was in February when my sister and I stayed in a treehouse in the middle of the Amazon. From spotting pink dolphins, to piranha fishing, to hugging sloths and everything in between it was the adventure of a lifetime. I highly suggest putting it on your bucket list!
From the depths of the Amazon we flew to the heights of the Andes, spending a few days in beautiful Cusco. We somehow managed to avoid altitude sickness, fall in love with llamas, and do some great wandering down the cobblestone streets.
Of course no Peruvian adventure is complete without a trip to Machu Picchu. Our trip was quick and rainy, but magnificent all the while. If you are short on time, I highly recommend the one day trip through Viator.
From there, we drove down to Cape Coral and stayed at the Westin Cape Coral at Marina Village. Wow! This hotel was so beautiful– maybe the nicest room we have ever had with a huge covered balcony and views for days.
The state park that is a quick drive away from Cape Coral was an incredible day trip and the crystal clear water made for a bath like playground! If you are looking for a beautiful Florida escape, I highly recommend Cape Coral. The summer was spent at our home away from home, Northern Bay. Peaceful walks in the woods, speedy rides on the boat and incredible family time makes this resort one of our favorites in the word.
I was even able to sneak in a ridiculously fun girls weekend that involved drinking, dancing, and brunching at the absolutely breathtaking Sand Valley Golf Resort.
At the end of July, we headed to Myrtle Beach and rented our first VRBO as a family. The house was spacious, the views were great and the beach didn’t disappoint.
From there, we drove to Garden City, South Carolina for my 30th year of time at Murrels Inlet with family. It is always great fun with pool time, beach time, mini golf and lots of catching up with family. I never miss it!
I gifted Andy a trip to New York for his birthday and we officially cashed it in this August. The North Fork and the Soundview Inn far exceeded our expectations.
The whole area has beautiful beaches, countless wineries and the bucolic town of Greenport had amazing seaside restaurants.
We left the quiet peacefulness of the North Fork for the bustle of New York City. It was fun walking for hours and playing tourists.
Of all the trips I take, I seriously love my November trip to visit my sister in Florida. It’s always easy, always chill, and always full of countless laughs. Our trip this year to Hollywood Beach lived up to all my dreams. In fact as I stare out at my snow-filled landscape, it’s the only place I really want to be.
Whoever you are, wherever you are remember life is short, the word is BIG. Where will you go in 2018?
Happy New Year and Happy Travels!
