Girls’ Weekend? Look no further….

IMG_74321With sunshine, sandy beaches, a fantastic night scene and maybe the best people watching around, Fort Lauderdale is the perfect place for a girls’ weekend. -And did I mention it is just an $8 Uber ride from the airport?!

IMG_74261Check into the W hotel which is steps from the beach and the top floors have large balconies with ocean and intercoastal views. The hotel is undergoing a $55 million renovation as we speak, so by the time you book your girls’ trip it will be all swanky and cool. In the meantime, I could overlook the plastic and dust for the most perfect location in FLL. You can literally walk to countless restaurants, beach bars and shopping.

IMG_74291Start the afternoon off right with a lunch at nearby Casablanca. The Mediterranean salad and lamb pita are top choices. Of course, pair your ocean view with an icy beer!

IMG_75191Don’t miss some pool time at the 5th floor pool of the W where the service is outstanding. They will literally hunt down a chair and prepare it for you. Stroll down North Lauderdale steps from the W’s doors or tip your toes in the waters of the Atlantic as you make your way down the boulevard before choosing a happy hour location–There are many! Opt for a bucket of beer or an icy vacation drink like a pina colada and some great appetizers.
IMG_00191For the ultimate in people watching–and I mean top people watching of my life–go to the open air Elbo Room. The band plays an eclectic mix from La Bamba to Zach Brown and everything in between. The band is good, but the amateur dancers are even better. I dare you to leave before bar time–You won’t want to!

For breakfast try the unassuming Beach Bunnies, which makes the most perfect Greek omelet and the prices are ridiculously cheap especially with their million- dollar ocean views.
FullSizeR2If it is a Saturday, you cannot miss the artisan farmers market at Burlock Coast. Pick up an amazing fresh pressed juice while you are there. IMG_75011Take it to go and make your way, salty air in your hair, to the beachy surf store Maui Nix to buy a cute sun hat or a requisite strapless Roxy dress, so you can cam0flauge as a Floridian.

IMG_75491After all that shopping you are bound to get hungry-Don’t disregard the appetizers that you can get delivered right to your pool chair at the W. With only a few days you mustn’t miss out on crucial pool time!
FullSizeR1If it is pure fun and laughs that you are looking for then the Cycle Party is the ultimate choice. Imagine cruising down the avenue in a giant bicycle, the breeze in your hair while jamming and laughing with your friends. I can attest to this being one of the most memorable activities I have ever partaken in. Pure unadulterated fun!
IMG_75601The area, Las Olas, where the 8pm Cycle Party goes to is very hip and the crowds of people eating at the many outdoor venues love to hoot and holler as you peddle by. The three stops were all perfectly swanky places and included three drink tickets, which we happily cashed in for  shots as a final salute!
IMG_00261Definitely stay in Las Olas after the Cycle Party and dance the night away to the beats of the amazing dj at Vibe Las Olas. Take the uber cheap Uber back to the W and definitely order late night pizza, which you will immediately regret upon waking.
IMG_00281If you are feeling less than fabulous the next morning, grab a fantastic cappuccino and a “world famous” breakfast sandwich from the H20 Café before mustering enough energy to make it back to your pool chair.

IMG_75131Be sure to take a requisite water taxi down the intercoastal towards East Las Olas.

IMG_00691This is a higher end more subdued part of Las Olas with plenty of little shops for window shopping and a plethora of open air restaurants.

IMG_00641We ate at Café Europa but after seeing the amazing garden and cozy ambience at Louie Bossi, I know we choose wrong. I guess that just gives us one more of many reasons to go back!

If you are old and out of practice, you’ll probably want to call it a night. We happily slipped into our cozy pants and watched Bad Mom’s on the select movies offered at the W.

This early night allowed me to finish the trip with an amazing run down the ocean front walk alongside a marathon. The cheerleaders, music and words of encouragement sure made my two mile jog a breeze–not to mention the  real ocean breeze carrying me along.
me beach

A perfect weekend? You bet. FLL take me away!!! But for now, back to reality ;).

Whoever you are, wherever you are, find someone to laugh with today…..

xo, Bree
