Would you volcano board?
Would you do this, Sunshine?
I watched video after video of people volcano boarding before I went to Nicaragua. I got more and more scared. It looked steep. It looked fast. Honestly, it just looked downright crazy.
But this is THE only place in the world to volcano board. My sister and I added Leon to our itinerary specifically for this.
So I went. And sure enough, I got to the top and stared down. I was scared. I was shaking. But, I did it.
I put my foot brakes on as hard as possible. I went sooo slowly. Slow as molasses. Everyone passed me, like whizzed by. My group was at the bottom chanting, "Bree! Bree! Bree!" (Thank you, cheerleaders.)
I didn't stop being scared. But, when I got to the bottom I was glad I did it. I was proud even though I was embarrassingly slow. I was proud I 'did it scared.'
I decided to add this as an optional activity for our Nicaragua group trip in November. Why? Because it is a once in a lifetime, only place in the world kind of experience. But more importantly, we don't have enough experiences in midlife that scare us in a good way, the way that makes us feel more alive.
So back to the original question...Would you ride on a wooden board down a steep, active volcano? Because I say…Go for it.
