We Give Back
At Somewhere Sunny, giving back isn’t an afterthought, it’s part of our ethos. We believe in leaving every place we visit a little better than we found it. That means not only working with local partners, drivers and guides, and staying locally owned hotels, but also giving back on every single trip.
How We Give Back
At Somewhere Sunny, We ask that each of our travelers donates $75-$100 towards a “Give Back” project on each trip. Whenever possible, we choose supporting not only in an impactful and meaningful way, but also sustainable.
Some of the ways we have given back:
A dry roof in Cuba:
We raised funds to help a woman living on $30/month, replace the makeshift roof where she lived with constant leaks and rats with a proper one, allowing her to have a dry and safe place to sleep and cook.
An oven for empowerment in Guatemala:
We collectively purchased an oven for the bakery program at a women’s entrepreneurial school serving primarily single mothers, many escaping domestic violence. The women are learning how to bake with the goal of opening their own small businesses someday. We were their first customers!
Small business starter:
We helped buy an eco-stove for a woman living in poverty so she could launch a tortilla making business and replace the environmentally and health hazardous wood stove she had used previously.
Helping a widow:
Our collective funds helped provide a widow, her mom and child a covered and sturdy place to live, new beds to sleep in and a cleaner most useful kitchen. Our in-country partner helped the mom combat her hopelessness by giving her a part-time job.
